Barn Owl near the Nene Washes

The area is excellent for a good number of the UK raptor species with Red Kite, Common Buzzard, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Peregrine Falcon and Marsh Harrier all regularly seen. Add to this in summer Hobbies are a common sight, Osprey move through and sometimes arrive in the area, and in winter Merlin and Hen Harrier can occasionally be seen. Rarer species have been recorded including Goshawk, Rough Legged Buzzard, Red Footed Falcon, White Tailed Eagle and even the Lammergeier stopped in for a few days a few years back. 

Owl species are also often seen with Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Little Owl, Short Eared Owl and Long Eared Owl all regularly seen and this year produced a Dark Breasted Barn Owl close to Bourne.

Great Reed Warbler at Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve

  Great Reed Warbler at Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve Today we headed slightly out of the Peterborough area to the Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve to see a Great Reed Warbler along with a fair few other species including Bittern, Crane, Marsh Harrier, Hobby and really good numbers of Reed and Sedge Warblers. Mammals of the Great Fen and Peterborough area Chinese Water Deer at the Great Fen The Peterborough is home to a number of the UK's mammals.
