Raptors and Owls
Barn Owl near the Nene Washes
The area is excellent for a good number of the UK raptor species with Red Kite, Common Buzzard, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Peregrine Falcon and Marsh Harrier all regularly seen. Add to this in summer Hobbies are a common sight, Osprey move through and sometimes arrive in the area, and in winter Merlin and Hen Harrier can occasionally be seen. Rarer species have been recorded including Goshawk, Rough Legged Buzzard, Red Footed Falcon, White Tailed Eagle and even the Lammergeier stopped in for a few days a few years back.
Owl species are also often seen with Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Little Owl, Short Eared Owl and Long Eared Owl all regularly seen and this year produced a Dark Breasted Barn Owl close to Bourne.
