  Ouse Fen RSPB - a variety of other species On the trip to Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve alongside the Great Reed Warbler a number of other species were also seen including Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Hobby and Great White Egret. Great Reed Warbler at Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve

  Great Reed Warbler at Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve Today we headed slightly out of the Peterborough area to the Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve to see a Great Reed Warbler along with a fair few other species including Bittern, Crane, Marsh Harrier, Hobby and really good numbers of Reed and Sedge Warblers. However the Great Reed Warbler was the star bird singing loudly and giving some good views, with photo's taken below. 2025 Bird species So far this year we have seen 133 species in the Greater Peterborough area with many seen locally over the Great Fen Project area. A current list of the species seen is available here:  Great Fen Wildlife checklist 2025   Over the following posts we will add photos of species seen and photographed all in the local area. Cuckoo at Woodwalton Fen Nature Reserve Cattle Egret at Deeping Lakes Nature Reserve Blackcap singing Garden Warblers have been seen in increased numbers this year Grey Wagtail with young Chiffchaff at Holme Fen Nature Reserve Whitethroat on the Great Fen Shelduck on the Great Fen

Mammals of the Great Fen and Peterborough area Chinese Water Deer at the Great Fen The Peterborough is home to a number of the UK's mammals. Since March 2025 the following have been seen: Otter, Badger, Hedgehog, Red Fox, Grey Squirrel, Water Vole, Stoat, Weasel, Roe Deer, Chinese Water Deer and Muntjac Deer multiple times and some giving good views for photographs.   Otters on the River Nene at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough Roe Deer at Woodwalton Fen Weasel on the Great Fen Brown Hare occurs throughout the Peterborough area Hedgehog in a Peterborough garden Red Fox on the Nene Washes
